Rain Fest was great. I hurt everywhere. I’m starting to get sick. It’s 5am. Canadians leave in a few hours. Love these dudes. I’ll make a bigger update later. I need sleep. Comeback Kid was insane. Another Breath after show was awesome.
“I’m tired of hearing America is the best at this or the best at that all the frickin’ time. It’s a fat country with bad health care, bad politics, bad education, bad infrastructure, bad religion, a horrific income gap, a load of violent crime, moronic drug laws, rampant racism, people who deny the rampant racism, sexism, people who deny the rampant sexism, an active and overt hostility to higher education, and a population that consists of large blocs devoted to ideology over real-world pragmatic answers. And to top things off, it’s filled with the sort of people who give idiotic responses to all these facts by saying, “Well, if you don’t like, why don’t you leave?” Morons.”—
So really Rain Fest day one was actually two days but they were crazy packed and flowed together for me. It’s been gnarly so far.
Thursday: I worked from 9am-5pm. I was super stoked cause I got off about an hour early. Gianni picked me up and we came back home and built a fort in my room. It’s legit as fuck. Watched “I Heart Huckabees”. Gianni had to go spend time with her brother for his birthday and I just cleaned and waited for my goofy Canadian friends to arrive. Errol, Jessee and Ben finally arrive at 2:45am. Curtis got home from work shorty after that and we all stayed up talking until I finally forced myself to go to bed at 4:15am.
Friday: Woke up at 6:15 for work. Got off a little early and went to Wayward to eat my first real food of the day. I was hoping to get a nap in before heading to Rain Fest but we had to head out before I could get to. I got to see Brittany for the first time in a few months which was wicked awesome. Rain Fest was was pretty not bad.
Envision is from Bellingham, Wa who I’ve somehow never seen play. They don’t get too many shows so most people around here aren’t too familiar with them. Definitely was surprised at how solid they sounded. The songs they played were from their brand new record which are much better than their demo that I heard last year.
All Teeth’s set was really fun. It was my first time seeing them and they sounded very solid. My only complaint was that they didn’t play more of their old songs.
I had only heard a little of Run With The Hunted but I liked them a lot. They got a good crowd reaction. Sam bought their rip off N.W.A “Fuck Tha Police” tank top which was pretty rad.
Another Breath was one of my favorite sets. I love them and I’m way bummed that they are breaking up soon. I pretty much spent the majority of the set diving which made Brittany dub me “King Stage Dive”
Make Do and Mend was pretty lame. I’ve seen them once before and they were much better the first time. They just seemed fairly sloppy and their set list was, for the most part, really poor.
We missed most of Xibalba but the last two songs we caught were par for the course for them. Heavy, angry and kids dancing super hard.
Foundation was actually a big surprise. Much better than last year although Foundation has a really strange habit of bringing out kids who dance like fucking pricks.
Black Breath just like always sounded bad ass. I’ve seen them a few different times in variously sized rooms and they always manage to put on a great sounding set. Two new songs were played that were excellent. The bizarre elaborate light show was kind of distracting though.
It was my first time seeing Trial and I was blown away. One of the most passionate and heartfelt sets that I’ve seen by any band ever. I’m a late comer to the Trial appreciation but goddamn do they deserve every once of love they get. I chipped some of my bottom teeth about forty seconds into the first song which happened to be “Unrestrained”, the one song I absolutely wanted them to play. So many kids doing so many dives during their set. So much fun.
After wards we all went to get food at the tofu house. Errol and I just hung out drinking beers and all of us told terrible jokes while watching The Big Labowski. I’ve now been up for a little over 22 hours with only about 1 hour and 45 minutes of sleep the day prior. I need to take a shower and get to bed. I’m hoping to sleep in late and get more food from Wayward. Looking forward to another great day. Shook Ones, 7 Seconds tomorrow!

“I want you all the time, not just some of the time like your other friends. I want you all of the time, not just sometimes at a bar or maybe a shopping trip to a supermarket. There’s so many bright lights on the car. I want you to think of me when you have a bad dream. I want you to remember me when you hear a bird sing. I want you to be my everything. There’s so many bright lights in the car, on the car that I don’t understand, I don’t understand at all. I want you to pick up when I call”
